You just got engaged; now what?! This is the question that every engaged couple gets as soon as the decision is made to get married. The answer- CELEBRATE! There is plenty of time to figure out what your wedding is going to be like, but you only get engaged once, which means you should enjoy every minute of it. Drink champagne, call or go see your friends and family, and just be in love!
I got engaged almost two months ago now and looking back, that day is already such a blur. My fiancé popped the question at 6:30am and let me tell you, that was the best wake up call I will ever have. It didn’t matter that it was early in the morning because it was the first day of the rest of our lives, so we popped the champagne that was graciously given to us by Von Bargen’s, the jewelry shop where my fiance got the ring of my dreams. This was followed by Facetiming my parent’s, which brought my Mom to tears, and a, “thanks for taking her off my hands,” from my Dad.
However, it wasn’t enough to just Facetime everyone, so we spent the day surprising our friends and family with the news of our engagement. This is one of the best experiences and is so exciting for everyone. If you thought you were excited before spreading the news, it gets more and more exciting with everyone you tell. Keep in mind, that inevitable question of, “now what?”, will come up, but just embrace it and live in the moment.
Another suggestion; make sure you take pictures! Some couples are lucky enough to have their actual engagement on film, but most of the time, the pictures come after. It doesn’t matter if you have to take a selfie or have someone take your photo, just make sure you document the day. The smiles that come from being so completely happy on your engagement day are worth looking at for the rest of your life.
So, like I said, the day flies by! Even though it seems like you never want it to end, there are so many more great days to come because YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED! I know I said to not think about all of those questions coming your way, but the planning can be just as exciting. Once the shock has worn off and you have told your families and friends, start thinking about your dream wedding and your wedding date! Stay tuned for next week’s blog about the first steps in the planning process!
